Since we've been home I've been thinking a lot about the people of Haiti. How can kids help them? How can kids make a difference? I've been looking around the web and of course, money is needed desperately. But I wanted something that our kids could do and feel like they helped personally. IOCC is asking for emergency hygiene kits to be assembled and shipped to them.
It's something you can do at home with your kids. It's not terribly expensive. The towels can be dollar store or Big Lots quality or can even be gently used from your own closet or a thrift store. If you wish to contribute, please assemble as many Hygiene Kits as you feel you can afford, and bring them to church on Sunday. GOYA will pay for shipping them to IOCC. Feel free to spread the word to other family members or even neighbors. We'll send what we collect this week right away. If more come in the next week, we'll send another box.
Below are the instructions of what to include. Please include only the items on the list. Bring completed bags to church on Sunday and put on the table inside the West door.
I'd encourage the kids to do as much of this as possible. If not the actual shopping, then for sure the bagging.
If anyone has any ideas of what else the GOYAns could do, please forward those to me.
Pray for the people of Haiti.
Denise
