10th Anniversary of the Denver Metropolis Center
With grateful hearts, the people of the holy Metropolis of Denver will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Metropolis Center which was formally opened in November 2002. All our people are invited to attend the festivities which will take place on the weekend of November 9-11, 2012 in Denver, Colorado.
As is known, the Center oversees the work of forty-nine parishes in an area which covers one third of the continental United States and includes fourteen states. During the past ten years the ministries of the Church have been enhanced due to the availability of adequate space for the work of Philoptochos, the Youth Ministries, clergy meetings and retreats, and pan-Orthodox gatherings which include the young adult ministries, Orthodox Prison Ministry, and the IOCC. The Metropolis Choir Federation also has space available for its work and records. The vital statistics of all sacraments, including Baptisms, Marriages, and funeral services, as well as other information regarding the clergy of the Metropolis, are kept in proper storage.
Soon the historic record of the Metropolis and Orthodox Christian migration to this part of the country will be depicted in eight large murals which will be placed above the colonnade area of the main entrance to the Center. In conjunction with the murals, the iconography of the beautiful Chapel will have begun in order to complete it with its permanent appointments.
The first major event of the weekend will be the Gala Banquet on Friday evening, November 9, 2012. On Saturday the unveiling of the eight murals will take place, followed by a Piano Concert in the Annunciation Room of the Metropolis Cathedral of the Assumption of the Theotokos. Great Vespers will follow, in Thanksgiving to God for His rich blessings upon the Metropolis. The weekend program will close with the celebration on Sunday of the hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral, followed by an extended coffee hour for all in attendance.
As is well known, your beautiful Metropolis Center has as its main purpose the strengthening of the spiritual life of the people, as well as the preservation of the canonical procedures for all sacraments and services of the Church.
Finally, on this special occasion in the life of your Metropolis, your gifts of any amount will be gratefully accepted in order to eliminate the debt which remains, so that all future income will be dedicated to the enhancement of the smaller parishes, as well as the development of home missions for the growth of our holy Metropolis and the sanctification of its people.
