"Stewardship is the act of organizing your life so that God can spend you."
(Lynn A. Miller)
Christian Stewardship is based upon the belief that everything we have in life is ultimately given to us by God and is the practice of giving our time, talents and treasures in the service of God and others.
Stewardship is how we form a "partnership" with God: "We are God’s co-workers."
(1 Corinthians 3:9)
The purpose of stewardship is to teach us to always put God first in our lives. (Deuteronomy 14:23)
Prayer, fasting and almsgiving are the three essential tools for spiritual growth.
(The Fathers of the Orthodox Church)
The bible talks about giving more than any other subject. For example the subject of "believing" appears 272 times, "prayer" 371 times, and "love" 714 times; while "giving" is mentioned 2,162 times!
Practicing Christian stewardship means giving God the FIRST portion
(not the "leftovers") of our time, talents and treasures:
"The first of the first fruits of your ground you shall bring into the house of the LORD your God (Exodus 23:19).
We give because we love and our love grows in proportion to our cheerful giving.
