As the duly accredited women's philanthropic society of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, the purpose of Philoptochos is fourfold:
- to help the poor, hungry, destitute, aged, sick, unemployed, orphaned, imprisoned, widowed, handicapped, disaster victims and to anyone who may need the help of the Church,
- to promote the philanthropic purposes of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America,
- to help perpetuate and preserve Orthodox Christian concepts through the Orthodox Christian family and the teachings and Holy Traditions and customs of the Orthodox Faith and
- to promote participation in the activities of the local Greek Orthodox parish. All of the above is to be done with, discretion, courtesy and kindness.
